Halloween is Thursday and there are so many great opportunities for our "spooky" challenge this week. I'm sorry this post is late - but since we were planning to be on Long Island over the weekend I decided to wait and photograph the spookiest thing I can think of. And I didn't even need it to be Halloween.

A couple of weeks ago I was invited to do a newborn shoot by this super fun family. First of all, Big Brother is just the most adorable thing - look at those eyes! This little girl is going to be gorgeous.

It's officially Fall here in Loudoun County, and today we had delightfully windy weather for our challenge this week - hello, Pumpkin Spice Lattes!

Our challenge this week was "old." Growing up, my grandma told me she gave both of her daughters a copy of this book when they got married and would do the same for me; sadly, she passed before that could happen, but I inherited hers which is even more meaningful. Hanging from it is her cross that she gave to me as a young girl. They're sitting on top of my grandpa's book, Basic War Photography. I always loved the contrast between them.

Our challenge this week was "soft focus." Admittedly, even by the best photographers this is probably my least favorite style because it sort of looks like a mistake made on purpose, but I guess that's the beauty of photography. I achieved the look using a filter in PhotoShop called Make Dreamy by Everyday Elements, though I've read that you can buy actual lenses to do this.

It's such a compliment when your clients not only refer new clients to you, but also treat family and friends to sessions with you! And that's exactly what happened on Monday. Past clients of mine had family in town for the week and wanted to do a session for them. And they were so easy to shoot - these kids are naturals in front of a camera.
